| A book on the floods of 1993 that was conceived as one of the goals of the Flood Recovery Information Retrieval Project, a group composed of five student flood historians, an Americorps/VISTA volunteer, and a Southwest State history professor. At the Headwaters culminates their research. It brings to light the varied faces of a hundred-year flood in one region. |

Here we discover why we need to study our land and waters. We learn in this book that we dwell in a region that has a distinctive natural and human history. We learn that our neighbors have stories to tell, and that these stories help us understand the causes and results of the Flood of 1993. At the Headwaters is an outstanding example of the way a university can work with its region to explore and communicate something of truth and value to the people it servers. Cheryl Dickson |
